Avalanche's Etna Upgrade Activates, Cutting Gas Fees by 96%, Hitting 100,000 TPS

Avalanche, a layer-1 blockchain launched in 2020 and now the tenth-largest by total value locked (TVL), has activated its most significant upgrade to date, known as Avalanche9000 or the Etna upgrade. This upgrade introduces several technical changes aimed at attracting developers to the ecosystem by allowing them to create customized blockchains, referred to as subnets or 'L1s'. Key changes include the introduction of a new type of validator through ACP-77, making it less costly to operate nodes, and ACP-125, which reduces the base fee on Avalanche's C-chain from 25 nAVAX to 1 nAVAX, significantly lowering transaction costs.
